Mission / Why PAIP exists

Intelligence is accelerating. Public understanding must catch up.

PAIP exists to give a new generation the language, evidence and community needed to take part in decisions about increasingly capable artificial intelligence.

A connected community moving toward an expanding network of artificial intelligence

The challenge

The more capable AI becomes, the harder it is to keep under control.

Today, AI can handle familiar tasks predictably. But as it gains new abilities, it encounters situations its developers could not foresee. Setting rules once is not enough. We need to keep checking that its decisions remain understandable, safe and aligned with people’s interests.

Growing AI complexity requires transparent boundaries and human oversight

Our mission

Make safe AI understandable, meaningful and open to participation.

We explain research in plain language, show uncertainty honestly and create practical ways for people to take part in shaping the future of AI.

Our vision

Build a future where AI preserves human freedom, choice and influence.

People should be able to understand, question, guide and correct the AI systems that shape education, work, society and everyday life.

A person sees consequences and can continue, redirect or stop a system action

What “Protected” means

Protected means keeping people safe and in control.

PAIP puts people — not technology — at the centre. As AI becomes more capable, everyone should retain safety, freedom of choice, dignity and a real voice in decisions that shape their lives.
  • Life and health
  • Freedom to choose or refuse
  • Dignity and personal agency
  • A voice in decisions about the future

What we do not claim

Clear limits are part of credibility.

PAIP is not an AI laboratory.

PAIP has not solved AI alignment — the challenge of keeping AI goals compatible with human values.

PAIP does not represent SSI, OpenAI or any other research organisation.

PAIP is not a political party or religious organisation.

PAIP does not make decisions for people or replace personal responsibility.

PAIP is not a government body or an AI regulator.

Principles

The rules that keep the mission ahead of the market.

01

Mission before market

Commercial attention must never redefine the reason PAIP exists.

02

Understanding before fear

We explain risk without panic, exaggeration or false certainty.

03

Source before headline

Traceable evidence matters more than a dramatic claim.

04

Uncertainty is visible

Unknowns and hypotheses are labelled rather than hidden.

05

People remain subjects

AI should strengthen human action, not turn people into passive recipients.

06

Correction is mandatory

A credible project must preserve a visible path to correct errors.
